Nancy B. Moore
Coordinator
The National Day of Prayer started 57 years ago by US Congress. By Public Law 100-307 as amended, has called on our Nation to reaffirm the role of prayer in our society by recognizing each year a “National Day of Prayer”. George W. Bush, President and John Corzine, Governor have proclaimed the first Thursday in May as National Day of Prayer day. It is a day set aside for people to come together and prayer for the our country and its leaders. Commercial Township began celebrating the National Day of Prayer beginning in 2000. Each year, the Coordinator, Nancy Moore coordinates her efforts with the State Coordinator and Shirley Dobson, the Nation’s Coordinator on what the theme is going to be for that day. Our Township coordinator visits area churches to promote this important day and to encourage support and attendance. An evening is planned for this event held at the Port Norris Fire Hall where pastors and local speakers from the area offer a talk and prayer on the Nation’s topics. In 2008, the topics include the military, government, education, family, media, church and business.
The theme for 2008 was “Prayer!, America’s Strength & Shield”
“The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Psalm 28:7
“It is important that we not only pray for these topics on May 1st, but every day should be a prayer day for our country and leaders”, said Mayor George Garrison
